Why are there so many different religions?

 to Truth Seekers

Notice how the the Bible answers this question.

Jesus spoke of false prophets:

  • (Matthew 7:15-16) “Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to YOU in sheep’s covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. 16 By their fruits YOU will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they?

He described them as workers of lawlessness

  • (Matthew 7:21-23) “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness.

Paul also spoke of these workers of lawlessness and revealed the source of their power.

  • (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10) But the lawless one’s presence is according to the operation of Satan with every powerful work and lying signs and portents 10 and with every unrighteous deception for those who are perishing, as a retribution because they did not accept the love of the truth that they might be saved.

Yes, these  deceivers are misleading millions and leading them to their death. Notice in the next verse that God, again, does not force his will on anyone.

  • (2 Thessalonians 2:11-12) So that is why God lets an operation of error go to them, that they may get to believing the lie, 12 in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness.

Jesus  first pointed to Satan as the source of false religion when speaking with some of his opposers.

  • (John 8:43-44) Why is it you do not know what I am speaking? Because you cannot listen to my word. 44 You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of [the lie].

There are currently more than 41,000 different religions claiming to be be Christian, and yet Paul said this in a letter to the Corinthian congregation:

  • (1 Corinthians 1:10) Now I exhort YOU, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that you should all speak in agreement, and that there should not be divisions among you, but that you may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought.

The only way that could possibly be accomplished would be for every one of those 41,000 denominations, considering itself a part of Christianity, to hold up every concept, teaching, or ideology preached from it's many pulpits to the yardstick of God's inspired word of truth and reject any that doesn't measure up.
